Whole Wheat Waffles

Ok so how cute are these waffles?  In hind sight I maybe should have shared this recipe before Valentine’s Day but here they are – and you don’t have to have this heart-shaped waffle maker.  Any waffle maker would do! I’m certain your whole family will flip over these whole wheat waffles – and they will have NO idea how much better they are for them compared to the frozen kind in a box!

This recipe is from 100 Days of Real Food and I used a Babycakes Waffle maker.  You can use this recipe with any waffle maker though and I highly recommend getting one.  Super fun for weekend family breakfasts!  My kids scarf these up!  And I don’t mind because I know exactly what is going into them, they are made with all clean ingredients and no processed sugars.

Whole Wheat Waffles

Yield: Serves 5-6

2 large eggs
1 ¾ cups milk (any kind)
¼ cup melted butter
1 tablespoon honey
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 ½ cups whole-wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
pure maple syrup

Preheat your waffle iron.

In a large mixing bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, butter, honey, cinnamon, and baking soda until well combined.

Add in the flour, baking powder, and salt and whisk together just until the large lumps disappear.

Spray your waffle maker with non-stick spray (if necessary) then ladle some batter onto the center of the iron. Follow the instructions that came with your waffle maker to know how long it should be cooked.

Keep waffles warm until you finish cooking all of them. Top with pure maple syrup and fruit.
